About Zariya

Zariya is a charity foundation started by music composer duo Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant for helping the Manganiyars. The manganiyars are musicians from Rajsthan and are renowned as flok musicians of the Thar desert. Their songs are passed on from generations to generation as a form of oral history of the desert.

Through Zariya, we aim to uplift and help this community which has been heavily affected by the recent pandemic.

Why Zariya?

The manganiyars have mainly been dependent on tourism as a source of their main income. As we all know that during the pandemic, tourism was higly affected and these musicians were left with no inflow to run their households.

We have been supporting them since then to help this community and nurture their talent.
